Amazon’s New Alexa Voice Assistant is Samuel L. Jackson

Amazon has announced that it will be introducing its first celebrity voice for Alexa and it is none other than Academy Award-nominated Samuel L. Jackson.

  • Alexa is Amazon’s cloud-based digitally enhanced assistant device. This is not the company’s first use of a celebrity voice with the device; previously consumers have been able to get greetings from Chelsea Handler and sing a duet with Ed Sheeran. However, Jackson’s voice will be the first to be synthesized and not prerecorded. It will replicate speech inflections of real people giving the voice more emotive and expressive speech.
  • To use the new feature, users will start by saying “Alexa, introduce me to Samuel L. Jackson,” then select if they would like him to use explicit language or not. There are also other voice commands will including “Alexa, ask Samuel L. Jackson where he is from” and “Alexa, ask Sam to wake me up at 7 a.m.”
  • The company also announced that the device will have new region-based dual language options. In the U.S. the device will support English and Spanish, in India English and Hindi, and in Canada English and French.
  • Samual L. Jackson is an Oscar nominee and one of the highest-grossing film actors of all time. He is known for his iconic lines in ‘Pulp Fiction,’ ‘Snakes On A Plane,’ and  ‘The Incredibles.’

The Jackson “voice pack” for Alexa will be available later this year for 99 cents.
