BET Digital recently announced in a statement that rap icon Lil Kim will be the recipient of the “I Am Hip Hop Award” at the 2019 BET Hip Hop Awards.

- Lil Kim shared news of the honor Thursday on her Instagram; The rapper said she will dedicate it to her passionate fanbase, the Beehive, not to be confused with Beyonce’s group of fans known as the Beyhive, according to atlantablackstar.
- The grammy award-winning, multi-platinum rapper, singer, actress and fashion icon was the first female rapper with three consecutive number-one singles on the Billboard’s Rap Songs chart.
- Kim broke into the music industry with her group Junior M.A.F.I.A, put together by her musical mentor/lover The Notorious B.I.G. Together, their debut album “Conspiracy” dropped in 1995 and it didn’t take long for Kim to get recognition.
- She released her mixtape #LilKimSeason that was nominated for best female rap artist at the BET Awards that same year.
- Kim’s fellow rapper and friend Missy Elliot, who was also featured on Kim’s “Lady Night Remix,” also congratulated Kim. “Congratulations sis @LilKim so deserving of the “I Am Hip Hop Award” YOU ARE TRULY!”
