Though it may not have been a surprise to some on social media, the cat is out of the bag. Dorian Hunter (45), originally from Cartersville, GA, has been crowned MasterChef making her the first black woman to secure the title.
What We Know:
- She ultimately won over the judges taste buds with a menu consisting of seared sea scallops with cornmeal tuille, sweet corn puree and pickled Swiss chard, an entree of apple-wood smoked short rib with potato and horseradish gratin; and a dessert of lemon blueberry tart with blueberry and cream cheese filling, toasted meringue and pecan crust.
- Hunter received a check in the amount of $250,000 and the opportunity to gain one-on-one experience training in the restaurants of the three judges Gordon Ramsay, Joe Bastianich and Aaron Sanchez.
- Hunter hosted a watch party for the winning-episode and invited the public to come out.
- In an interview with Parade, Hunter says her immediate plans are to write a cookbook. She goes on to say “My vision for my cookbook would be what I have been saying all season, elevated soul,” she says. “I don’t want to be too rustic, because I think that has already been done a lot, but I want to show soul-food cooking done in a different way – in a beautiful way, not just in a home style way. Plated differently and presented in a different manner.”
- Unfortunately, there is controversy surrounding Hunter’s win. Some fans feel as though it was “rigged” from the beginning and that it was based on race and gender.
- Check out the very moment Mrs. Hunter found out that she would now be known as MasterChef.
As for the future, Mrs. Hunter desires to open a restaurant in a few years, aided by the cash prize. “I always say that having the title is more than the money,” she said. “I am hoping to be able to work the title to ultimately, open up that restaurant.”
