Colt Manufacturing is Halting Production of AR-15, Says Enough are on the Market

Colt Manufacturing, a gun manufacturer, is halting their production of rifles including the AR-15.

What We Know:

  • Colt Manufacturing a gun-making company in Connecticut is stopping their production of assault rifles. The decision comes during the current gun debate in the U.S. that is focused on the numerous mass shootings that have occurred in recent years.
  • Dennis Veilleux, CEO of the company, is not permanently ending production of the weapon but believes that there is an adequate supply of such rifles. Veilluex states, “The fact of the matter is that over the last few years, the market for modern sporting rifles has experienced significant excess manufacturing capacity.”
  • In many of the mass shootings during the recent years, AR-15 semiautomatic rifles and similar assault-style weapons were used. These shootings include Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012, a Las Vegas concert in 2017, a Parkland high school last year, and a California synagogue in April 2019.
  • The company whose products are available at more than 4,000 dealers across the country will now focus on providing law enforcement and military personal with its rifle manufacturing. 

The company says that it remains committed to the Second Amendment and that they are adapting to consumer demand.
