Kanye West’s ‘Sunday Service’ pops up in Atlanta

Kanye West surprised many at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church Sunday morning.

WATCH KANYE’S SUNDAY SERVICE:

What We Know:

  • Kanye brought his popup series of Sunday performances called “Sunday Service” to the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Stonecrest, GA, just outside of Atlanta.  The performer has long confirmed that the services are indeed Christian, though they don’t always have a speaker or pastor that brings a message.
  • West has been making such appearances on Sundays this year, including one in Dayton, Ohio, to help that community in the wake of the mass shooting and on Easter Sunday to bring a message of faith to those attending the music festival Coachella.  Last Sunday West appeared at Fellowship Chicago.
  • Last week on ABC’s daytime show “The View,” West’s wife, Kim Kardashian West, was asked about the Sunday Service events.“Kanye started this, I think, just to heal himself and it was a really personal thing … and it was just friends and family,” Kim Kardashian West said. “And he has had an amazing evolution of being born again and being saved by Christ. It is a Christian service, like a musical ministry; they talk about Jesus and God.”
  • Jamal Bryant, Senior Pastor of New Birth mentioned that over 100-crew were flown in for the event.  New Birth services started at 9:30 am ET,  Kanye and team took the stage around 11:30 am.

The services have started to jolt conversation in faith culture.
