The comparison of both Atlanta groups has been floating across the timelines since EarthGang’s rise to fame a couple of years ago. But it was Tuesday’s tweet from industry figure YesJulz that stirred the debate.
What We Know:
- YesJulz said, “Earthgang is like the OutKast of this generation only with two Andre’s. I’m so here for it.”

- The debate heated up after that. Many on social media were divided on their opinion about both groups. Although both groups are from Atlanta, met their counterparts in high school and made incredible music that is where the similarities stop.
- One fan wrote they didn’t understand the comparison at all. “Why niggaz want EarthGang to be the new OutKast so bad? Why they can’t just be the first EarthGang.”
- Another fan stated that the EarthGang album gave off a similar vibe or sound to the rap duo.
I don’t wanna say it cause they’re from Atlanta and it’s obvious, but the OutKast vibes coming off this Earthgang album is very much a vibe. pic.twitter.com/VsB4tvXuMs

- Outkast was formed in 1992 in East Point, Georgia with bandmates Andre “Andre 3000” Benjamin and Antwan “Big Boi” Patton. With their career spanning 14 years the duo went on to release six studio albums, and the group earned 14 awards (Grammys, BET Awards, MTV VMAs, Soul Train Awards) and 16 nominations.
- Because of the controversy becoming a trending topic on Twitter, it prompted a response from one of the members of EarthGang. In his statement, he says although they are blessed to have the opportunity to stand on the shoulders of greatness and be a light in this world, they are not and will never be OutKast. They are setting their own path and to be compared to these legends is a humbling experience.
Big Boi, 1/2 member of Outkast, released a statement Wednesday in an interview with The Breakfast Club. Rather than adding fuel to the fire, he focused on his achievements he has earned in 25 years since being in the business and how far he has gone in his career. He’s grateful for the experience, and he wants others to do the same.
