Malik Yoba Speaking out after He Makes a Statement about his Attraction to Trans Women

Before removing it hours later, Malik Yoba, the Empire star, posted an Instagram video of a man defending his transgender girlfriend while being harassed by people.

What We Know:

  • The man in the video is Maurice “Reese” Willoughby who died last month from a drug overdose, according to Newsweek.
  • Yoba wrote in his post “I love ALL women AND count MYSELF among those that find themselves trans attracted and I too have felt the self imposed shame that comes with that truth but it’s time to speak up.” He later goes on to say that it’s not about the genitalia but the soul that makes someone attractive, and that he is learning to become attracted to trans people.
  • He has received praise from the trans community including Trace Lysette, a transgender woman. A transgender woman is a biological man who identifies as a woman.

  • Critics have argued this is a publicity stunt to move away from his allegations of dating a 13-year-old child trans prostitute. His wife later went on to post this message on social media.

When asked about this allegation by The Root Yoba stated “I have been an ally of the trans community since I was in high school; having friends who have transitioned,” Yoba said in a statement obtained by The Root. “Both became homeless as a result, because their parents didn’t accept them, and unfortunately one ended up dead from HIV and crack addiction.”
