4 Afro- Dominican Models are the Cover Stars of Vogue Latin America’s September Issue

Four Afro-Dominican models are making history, as the women smile and pose for the cover of Vogue Mexico and Latin America’s September issue.

What We Know:

  • Licett Morillo, Manuela Sánchez, Annibelis Baez and Ambar Cristal Zarzuela, are dressed in all black, posing  in the middle of a field for the historical issue. The September issue is deemed the most important for fashion magazines as it is on magazine stands at the same time as fashion month, NBC News reports.
  • “In the past couple of years, Dominican models have dominated the fashion world, walking in shows such as Dior and Valentino and starring in campaigns for Louis Vuitton among others, says Karla Martinez, chief-in-editor for Vogue Mexico and Latin America. We wanted to show these women as they truly are, capturing their beauty, natural hair and unique qualities.”
  • Martinez and staff wanted to highlight the importance of diversity in Latin America in their September issue, so that it could “celebrate all types of beauty.” According to Ceros, Vogue has increased its diversity of non-white models by 43.5 % between the years of 2017-2018.
  •  Morillo has walked for Dior and Prada, while being featured in Vogue Italia, British and Spain. Sanchez is signed to several modeling management companies including Dna Models and has modeled for Moschino and British Vogue. Baez who is also signed to Dna Models, is featured in the Reebok/Victoria Beckham campaign and has modeled for W Magazine. Lastly, Zarzuela is the newest model of the Louis Vuitton family and has been featured in several campaigns over the summer.

Vogue Mexico and Latin America is the fashion that unites us.
