Los Angeles Lakers center, DeMarcus Cousins has been accused of threatening to shoot his ex-girlfriend, the mother of his child, according to reports.
What We Know:
- An alleged phone call between Cousins and his ex-girlfriend was released by TMZ. In this call, we hear Cousins ask for their son to be allowed to go to his wedding – a marriage to another woman. On August 26, an unidentified woman filed a protection order request in Mobile County Court in Alabama.
- The request asked that the court bar Cousins from “committing acts of abuse” and to issue a restraining order to keep him from contacting her or their child. It also mentioned a statement that Cousins threatened to shoot her August 23, although this wasn’t the first time things escalated to violence. Cousins was also accused of choking her in the past.
- The reported call includes the following statements:
[Cousins](Alleged): “I’m gonna ask you this one more time before I take it to another level… Can I have my son here, please?” [assumed to be Cousins]
[Ex-Girlfriend]: “No, he’s not coming,” [assumed to be the ex-girlfriend].
[Cousins](Alleged): “I’m gonna make sure I put a bullet in your f—ing head.”
- An arrest warrant has been made. If found guilty, he could face a third-degree domestic violence charge of harassing communications, according to the LA Times. The NBA or the Lakers will be doing their own investigation regarding the allegation.
With allegations in the process, The New York Times reported that representatives from the Lakers and the NBA will be doing investigations.
