‘Old Town Road’ is on it’s way to country music’s biggest night, but Billboard didn’t think it was ‘country’ enough.
What We Know:
- Once kicked off the Billboard country music charts for not embracing “enough elements of today’s country music” the Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus musical phenomenon earned a ticket Wednesday to the 53rd CMA Awards.
- Not withstanding the help of tons of remixes, ‘Old Town Road’ broke the all-genre Billboard 100 record for longest-running No. 1 single. It spent 19 weeks in the top spot.
- ‘Old Town Road’ won it’s first major award Monday night as it brought home Song of the Year at MTV’s VMAs.
- The rapper, 20, celebrated the news on Twitter. “Thank you guys for this nomination!!” he wrote:
