Photos from President Donald Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau’s trade talks at the G7 Summit went viral as people make fun of a moment between Trudeau and Melania Trump and Trudeau’s socks.
What We Know:
- Trump and Trudeau discussed the details of their new trade deal Sunday at the G7 summit as they discussed the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement. This was a change of pace from last years’ Summit when Trump and Trudeau left in a Twitter feud and a refusal from Trump to sign the deal they had come to.
- The two celebrated the deal that Trump is likely to use to benefit his 2020 campaign. “We have a deal that’s good for our workers, good for our citizens, good for the middle class, and that’s the kind of thing we need to see more of around the world,” Trump said. Only Mexico has officially signed off on the trade agreement so far. The two also discussed China’s detention of two Canadians, raising more questions about the current American trade war with China.
- A picture of Melania and Trudeau talking with each other, seemingly overly lovingly, has gone viral inspiring the Twitter hashtag #MelaniaLovesTrudeau. The photo was taken at the end of the Summit as world leaders in attendance gathered for a “family photo.” The internet has exploded with jokes of the love between the two, not dissimilar from photos of Ivanka Trump “swooning” at Trudeau that went viral last year.
- Trudeau also seemingly flaunted a pair of loud pink socks during the meeting, creating criticism that he diverted focus from a very serious conversation. Celebrity critics like Piers Morgan and Canadian politician Erin O’Toole criticized the socks to resounding support on social media. This isn’t the first time Trudeau’s socks have caused a media hysteria; in 2017 his Star Wars-themed socks got him in trouble during interviews.
Once again, Trudeau’s impact at an international leaders’ meeting amounts to sock fashion. https://t.co/7nPAcK4OKy

As per usual with these two, their trade talks went viral for anything but the actual deal itself.
