Black Girls Rock To Honor Angela Bassett With An Icon Award

After decades of success with films such as Boyz In The Hood and Black Panther, Bassett has gained a new legion of fans with her roles in Ryan Murphy’s series American Horror Story, and his FOX series 911.

  • This year’s host is Claws and When They See Us actress Niecey Nash.
  • According to Vibe.comthe star power award will go to If Beale Street Could Talk star Regina King, while Ciara will receive the rock star award. The shot-caller award will go to Debra Martin Chase and Grammy-Award Winner H.E.R. will get the Young Gifted and Black award.
  • The Community Change Agent Award will go to “The Mothers of Movement” Sybrina Fulton, Geneva Reed-Veal, Gwen Carr, Lucy McBath, Maria Hamilton and Cleopatra Pendleton-Cowley.
  • Black Girls Rock! was founded by DJ and model Beverly Bond. Bond created this award ceremony to honor and celebrate the contributions of African American women.

The 2019 Black Girls Rock Award will air on BET Sept. 8th at 8 p.m.
