Until graduation day, Chelesa Fearce’s peers had absolutely no idea that she was homeless multiple times throughout her high school years.
What We Know:
- Feacre went from being homeless and surviving on one meal per day to making the national news multiple times for her achievements, determination, and success.
- Despite her struggles, Fearce graduated with honors making her the valedictorian at Clayton County’s Charles R. Drew High School in 2013. Just six years later, she is still leading a successful life after graduating from Spelman College. As expected, Fearce is still working towards a higher education and has recently become a medical student at Yale.
- The 23-year-old will attend Yale Medical School sometime this year. She has also received a full scholarship towards her education and living arrangements at Yale. Her new educational path at Yale will take her roughly eight years to complete.
- Fearce’s ultimate career goal is to become a psychiatrist. She is expected to graduate with both a doctorate and a medical degree. While in college, Fearce has also spent time working at the National Institute for Health in Bethesda, Maryland, where she has done research on psychiatric disorders.
- Fearce has left such an inspiring impression on so many people in her hometown. As a result, her high school county system awards scholarships to homeless students with high academic scores in her name.
Despite the odds Chelesa has progressed throughout her young life and her story is truly inspirational.
