Kenya Barris Files For Divorce From Wife

Kenya Barris has taken the steps to separate from his wife after 20 years of marriage. Their marriage had previously endured some hardships when his wife, Dr. Raina Barris, filed for divorce just four years ago in 2014. Luckily, the couple rectified their issues to continue on with their marriage, until now.

What We Know:

  • Kenya Barris, is most known for producing and writing the popular ABC network show Black-ish.
  • Most of the Black-ish script is inspired by Barris’ real life and relationship with his wife and children. This may lead viewers to wonder if they will depict their divorce on screen in the upcoming seasons between the main characters Dre Johnson, played by Anthony Anderson, and his wife Rainbow, played by Tracee Ellis Ross.
  • Barris filed for divorce at the Los Angeles Superior Court on August 9, according to The Associated Press. This was also the day of his 45th birthday.
  • Barris married Raina in 1999 and the couple shares six children together. Four of which are minors that Barris has requested to have joint physical and legal custody of once their divorce is completed.
  • He also has an upcoming spinoff show titled Mixed-Ish, which reflects Dr. Raina’s childhood. The show will debut this fall.
  • The reason for the divorce is listed as “irreconcilable differences” and Barris has also agreed to pay his wife spousal support under the determination of the court. It is unknown if the couple has a prenuptial agreement.
  • Season six of Black-ish will premiere on Sept. 24.

We would like to wish both Kenya and Raina the best in their future of being single and co-parenting.
