Musical icons John Legend and Rihanna gave President Trump some much needed criticism for his policies and comments on the recent shootings.
What We Know:
When we condemn the racist venom coming from the President's mouth and point out the bigotry of his policies, it's not an academic question, it's not a political game, it's about life and death. The President regularly inspires killers. He is a part of the problem
— John Legend (@johnlegend) August 4, 2019
- Legend told Variety that his “heart aches for El Paso and Dayton. Our nation is experiencing these traumas far too often and we need our leaders to take urgent action: take these weapons of war off the street and fight the evil ideology of white nationalism that motivates many of these terrorists…”
- He continued on Twitter by stating, “When we condemn the racist venom coming from the President’s mouth and point out the bigotry of his policies…it’s about life and death…The President regularly inspires killers. He is a part of the problem.”
- This is all after the two mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton that left at least 29 citizens dead. With numerous people calling for the gun control this country desperately needs, it is a time of high tension and confrontation of the current administration.

- Rihanna had her own jabs at Trump, calling out his incorrect spelling of the “terrorism” he is supposedly defending the country from. She also talked about how the country has faced “2 terrorist attacks back to back hours apart leaving almost 30 innocent people dead. This, just days after yet another terrorist attack in California, where a terrorist was able to LEGALLY purchase an assault rifle (AK-47) in Vegas, then drive hours to a food festival in Cali leaving 6 more people dead including a young infant baby boy.”
- In an age where it feels like you cannot be safe in any public place, it is great to see influential figures use their voice to raise awareness.
There is much that needs to be done to make America safe for all.
