Amazon retailer is selling a ‘hella black hella proud’ swimsuit with a white model

An Amazon retailer is selling swimsuits aimed at black people but modeled by a white person.

What We Know:

  • The company, ZBBRDD, is selling a swimsuit on Amazon with the phrase, “hella black hella proud”…using a white model.
  • The company has also used other phrases like “Melanin Poppin'” on a white model.
  • A Twitter user pointed out the hiccup:

  • The swimsuit had a one-star review and several disapproving customer reviews. One read, “First let’s address the model in this picture, would it have been too hard to actually find someone who’s actually ‘Hella black and Hella proud!!'”
  • Amazon removed the offensive product, but several others with the same issues are still on the site. For example, a suit with the phrase “Brazilians do it better” worn by the same white model is still posted.
  • Many people on Twitter also pointed out the similarities between ZBBRDD’s products and a Black-owned clothing company’s called All Dem Shades.

This is not a good look.
