The ‘Watchmen’ Trailer with Regina King makes it a Must See

HBO released the trailer for its series adaptation of the Watchmen starring Regina King.

What We Know:

  • Fans at San Diego Comic-Con got an exclusive look at a “remixed” version of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ graphic novel. The trailer shows old vigilantes such as Rorschach, alongside new masked heroes.
  • Watchmen—which premieres on HBO and Sky Atlantic in October—stars Regina King, Jeremy Irons, Tim Blake Nelson and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. The series is set in the year 1985 at the height of the Cold War between the U.S. and Soviet Union. It revolves around a group of retired American superheroes who investigate the murder of one of their own and in the process uncover a conspiracy that could change the course of history.
  •  Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof’s goal is to continue the story from where Moore and Gibbons left off. In an open letter to fans on Instagram, he noted that the series will be completely original. “We have no desire to ‘adapt’ the twelve issues Mr. Moore and Mr. Gibbons created thirty years ago,” Lindelof said. “Those issues are sacred ground and they will not be retread nor recreated nor reproduced nor rebooted.
  • King also said, “I felt like we’re really lucky because Damon is so smart to…create his own, I don’t want to say a world, but we don’t have to be beholden to what everyone’s already seen with Watchmen. I think everybody will just be surprised. It’s not a total redo; it’s its own world.”

Regina King isn’t the only black woman making strides in the comic world. Marvel recently announced Teyonah Parris will be playing Monica Rambeau in its upcoming series WandaVision.
