The Westworld season 3 trailer was released on Saturday at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, revealing a Nazi-themed simulation as the show’s focus.
What We Know:
- Along with the trailer release, the theme of the season was revealed as “The New World,” which won’t release for about another year; Creator Jonathan Nolan has been slowly building anticipation since he released an even shorter teaser trailer in May.

- Based on the trailer, the only returning cast members will be Evan Rachel Wood, Tessa Thompson, Rodrigo Santoro, Thandie Newton, Jeffrey Wright, Ed Harris and Luke Hemsworth; The show dropped seven series regulars during season two. The trailer also reveals some unannounced cast additions like Aaron Paul, Lena Waithe, Marshawn Lynch and Tommy Flanagan.
- Season two of the show faced backlash and a decline in ratings due to its confusing and complicated storyline; Following the fan-proclaimed overly confusing season, showrunners Nolan and Lisa Joy have promised season three will be less confusing. “This season is a little less of a guessing game and more of an experience with the hosts finally getting to meet their makers,” Nolan said.
- This coming season finally makes the long-anticipated jump to outside the Westworld Park, and only robots are left alive in the park at the open of the season, which will focus on the hosts exploring the real world. The panel of showrunners and cast members at Comic-Con resisted the urge to overshare about the season, keeping some mystery alive; “I don’t know how to talk about this show because I don’t know what I’m allowed to say!” Thompson told the Comic-Con crowd.
Fans have long anticipated the drop of season three and hope to see a less confusing storyline from Nolan and Joy.
