CVS employee calls cops over black woman’s tone of voice

Kendriana Washington was at a CVS Pharmacy when a white employee called the police on her for her ‘tone.’

  • Washington recorded the incident in a live video. She also created a thread on Twitter detailing her experience, NewsOne reported.
  • The woman was picking up a prescription at the drive-thru window of a CVS Pharmacy in Tulsa, OK. The incident began when her debit card malfunctioned and would not read on the register. An employee named Debbie assisted her and swiped her card several times but the transaction still wouldn’t process.
  • She assured the employee that she had money in her account, stating, “I know the money is on there.”
  • Washington suggested that Debbie swipe the card on another register. Debbie stated, “No. You don’t have enough money on your account. That’s usually what that means.”
  • Washington went inside and used her card at an ATM to retrieve the money she needed to purchase her medication. When she went back to the pharmacy, she requested another employee to help her check-out.
  • The other employee, only known as Tanya, wasn’t much help either. Washington was upset about her encounter with Debbie and was voicing her disapproval when Tanya stated she didn’t like her tone and threatened to call the police.
  • Tanya called the authorities and claimed Washington was “refusing to hear her out” and “yelling at the top of her voice.” After Tanya was done talking to the police, Debbie came to the register and finally processed the order. CVS responded to the thread of tweets stating that they do not tolerate the behavior exhibited by the two employees.

It is unclear whether the two women will face consequences for harassing this customer.
