British Airways and Lufthansa have suspended all Cairo Flights for Security Concerns

Two airlines abruptly cancelled all flights to Cairo, Egypt amid safety concerns.

What We Know:

  • The two airlines, British Airways and Lufthansa, have released vague statements explaining the cancelations.
  • British Airways released a statement saying, “We constantly review our security arrangements at all our airports around the world, and have suspended flights to Cairo for seven days as a precaution to allow for further assessment.”
  • “As safety is the number one priority of Lufthansa, the airline has temporarily suspended its flights to Cairo today as a precaution, while further assessment is being made. We do not have any additional information at this time,” stated Lufthansa.
  • ABC News reported that Egypt’s Minister of Aviation, Younes El Masry, told the British Ambassador to Cairo, Geoffrey Adams, he was “dismayed by the unilateral decision to suspend flights,” during a meeting.

  • Adams stated the decision was “not related to security measures at Egyptian airports.”
