Warner Bros. to shine light on diversity with #BlerdandBoujee Boat Party

Warner Bros TV will be hosting a boat party called #BlerdandBoujee at comic-con in San Diego.

What We Know:

  • For a long time, there was a stereotype that the comic world only consisted of white males. It wasn’t until 1966 when the first mainstream black superhero, Black Panther, was introduced by Marvel, and DC introduced Black Lightning in 1977.
  • Black culture is being represented more and more in the comic world. Especially with more black superhero characters, including Black Panther, War Machine, The Falcon, and Black Lightning—which Warner Bros. produced.
  • Blerd, which is a term to describe a black nerd, has been used more frequently in mainstream media over the years. Although the industry is populated with white actors, mainstream media made strides to show more people of color in television and film. This event allows Warner Bros. to shed light on the contributions in the comic world made by a community that hasn’t been recognized or has been left out completely.
  • The event will feature Warner Bros. executives, mainstream media outlets, influencers, Black talent in front of and behind the camera, and much more. Music will be provided by D.J. D-Nice and is sponsored by AT&T Dream in Black.

Comic-Con runs from July 17 to July 21 at the San Diego Convention Center and the Gaslamp District.
