Kanye West is Designing Low-Income Housing Units, Inspired by Star Wars

Kanye West has been working with a team to design low-income housing units inspired by Star Wars architecture.

What We Know:

  • In 2018, the rapper and entrepreneur announced via Twitter that he was launching an architecture arm of his Yeezy fashion label, called Yeezy Home. Looks like things are coming into fruition with this new project!
  • In an interview with Forbes, Kanye shared that the prototypes are “oblong and dozens of feet tall.” The living spaces would be used for the homeless and “sunk into the ground with light filtering through the top.”
  • The designs were inspired by Luke Skywalker’s childhood home. Photos of the prototypes haven’t been released but are described as “a trio of structures that look like the skeletons of wooden spaceships.”
  • Kanye also didn’t mention any possible location for the homes, however, he’s meeting with potential investors in San Francisco, which is currently battling high rates of homelessness. According to a report, homelessness in the city has increased 17 percent over the last two years due to the rise in home values.

Kanye is a big fan of Star Wars and has made references to the movie in his lyrics and even did a Star Wars-themed skit on Saturday Night Live in 2004 where Kim Kardashian played Princess Leia.
