The second U.S Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan ruled Tuesday that President Donald Trump cannot ban critics from his Twitter account.
What We Know:
- President Donald Trump has blocked and or excluded many critics on his social media account.
- A federal court ruled for President Trump to unblock critics because Trump uses his Twitter to conduct government business. “Trump is unable to exclude some Americans from reading his post,” NYTimes said.
- The first amendment prohibits any official who uses a social media account for government purposes from excluding people from an otherwise open online dialogue, Judge Parker wrote.
- According to NYTimes, “A group of Twitter users whom Mr. Trump had blocked from accessing his posting asked the White House to be unblocked and then, when their request was unheeded, sued the president.”
- The ruling of Trump blocking Americans from his account was unconstitutional and went against the First Amendment. It became one of the highest-profiled court decisions yet.
Now President Trump will be unable to block Americans from trolling his account.
