Philadelphia honored soul singer Patti LaBelle with her very own street earlier this week, but her name was misspelled.
What We Know:
- A stretch of Broad Street in the “New Attitude” singer’s hometown, between Locust and Spruce streets, was renamed “Patti LaBelle Way” during the ceremony on Tuesday. The city’s Streets Department neglected to capitalize the “b” in the soul singer’s last name on the signs.
- Deana Gamble, a city spokeswoman, told The Philadelphia Inquirer the city was aware of the mistake and had plans to fix the capitalization of the street sign this week.
- During the ceremony, LaBelle autographed a sign that had the proper spelling. She thanked all the fans who attended the ceremony and reminisced about her parents walking down that very street. LaBelle even serenaded fans with a live rendition of her song, “Love, Need and Want You.”
- LaBelle recorded “New Attitude” and “Stir It Up” for the Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack, relaunching her solo career in 1984.
She recently landed a show on the Cooking Channel where she shares her home-cooked meals with celebrity guests.
