HBO released its first trailer for Robin Thede and Issa Rae’s sketch series A Black Lady Sketch Show.
What We Know:
- The upcoming series is a quick-paced narrative sketch show “set in a limitless magical reality full of dynamic, hilarious characters,” according to HBO. Additionally, it features an all-black female cast at its core, including Thede, Ashley Nicole Black, Gabrielle Dennis and Quinta Brunson.
- After watching the trailer, there are a lot of special guest appearances, including Issa Rae, Laverne Cox, Kelly Rowland, Lena Waithe, Tia Mowry, Angela Bassett, Patti LaBelle, and many others. With music from Megan Thee Stallion and Saweetie playing in the background of the trailer, the show instantly feels like a gift.
- Some of the sketches teased included a hiking trip that ends with Brunson falling off the side of a mountain, a game of Never Have I Ever and what appears to be a parking garage shootout.
- A Black Lady Sketch Show is part of the network’s two-year first-look deal with Issa Rae, who was set to produce content aimed at bringing diverse voices to all HBO platforms back in 2016.
- This show will be the first-ever sketch comedy series to be completely written, directed by and starring black women.
