Suspect Arrested in David Ortiz Case

This is now the 14th arrest made since the incident occurred with the former Red Sox star Ortiz.

What We Know:

  • Junior Cesar La Hoz Vargas was arrested on Saturday after being accused of renting the apartment where the leader of the murder plot, Victor Hugo Gómez Vasquez, hid before his own arrest Friday according to the Boston Globe.
  • Alberto Miguel Rodriguez was also arrested Friday while attempting to flee to Puerto Rico by boat. He allegedly paid the hit men about $8,000 for the job.
  • Despite these arrests, there is still one person on the run — Luis Alfredo Rivas Clase, who also is known as “The Surgeon,” according to officials.
  •  Due to the complexities of the case, the initial court appearances of Gomez Vasquez and Rodriguez Mota might be pushed back.
  • Gómez Vasquez allegedly ordered the assassination of his cousin, Sixto David Fernández. Gómez Vasquez believed Fernández had been snitching on him to local authorities in a 2011 drug case that led to his imprisonment.
  • The hit men arrived at the Dial Bar where Fernández was sitting with Ortiz June 9, but accidentally shot Ortiz instead due to bad lighting in the area.

Hopefully, we get answers sooner rather than later.
