Pharrell Surprises High School Graduates With Internships

114 Harlem students will be attending college next year thanks to singer/rapper Pharrell and his “Happy” Internship.

What We Know:

  • On Wednesday, singer/rapper Pharrell announced to 114 students at Harlem Children’s Zone Promise Academy that they will be granted internships.
  • Pharrell said, “It’s one thing to be woke, another to be awake, Believe it or not, with respect, it’s going to actually be better. And the reason why is because the Harlem Renaissance had education at its core.”
  • Harlem Children’s Zone is a school and a non-profit organization for poverty-stricken children and families. Most children from Harlem are unable to attend college due to low funds.
  • Pharrell also launched a tech-focused music education program, partnering with Verizon, bringing free technology and internet access to middle schools lacking resources.

Congratulations graduates!
