On the last day of Pride Month, “Old Town Road” rapper Lil Nas X took to Twitter to come out as gay.
What We Know:
- Lil Nas X tweeted about his new song “c7osure” from his new EP, “7” saying, “some of y’all already know, some of y’all don’t care, some of y’all not gone fwm no more. but before this month ends i want y’all to listen closely to c7osure.” He followed the tweet saying “Deadass thought I made it obvious.”

- Although the lyrics are vague, they can be interpreted as the struggle of coming out. Fans started to interpret the hit song that made him rise to prominence. He debunked everyone’s theories tweeting “old town road is literally about horses,” later tweeting a picture of the animal which, according to Google, represents freedom.
- The 20-year-old, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, received some mixed reactions from fans who he responded to but didn’t specifically confirm his sexual orientation.

Just because Lil Nas X is out doesn’t mean you get to twist “Old Town Road” to mean something completely different. Your kids love him AND that song, and they don’t give a fuck about his sexuality. Don’t switch shit up now.

- He also received some responses from celebrities. Miley Cyrus wrote in support of the rapper, “SO proud of my baby brother @lilnasx 🌈❤️🌈❤️ In your corner forever my friend!” Cyrus wrote alongside a photo of the two posing together. The Atlanta-based rapper also received support from Walking Dead actor Daniel Newman, YouTuber Kalen Allen, beauty guru James Charles, record producer Boi-1da, DJ producers Take A Daytrip, and writer Ira Thee Third.
“Old Town Road” has spent 12 weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, making it the longest-running No. 1 hit of 2019.
