Rapinoe continues Trump White House Protest and gets Support from Teammates

A feud between the President and Megan Rapinoe, a member of the US Women’s National Soccer team, began when she told Eight by Eight during an interview, “I’m not going to the f**king White House.”

What We Know:

  • On Wednesday, President Trump invited the UWNS team to the White House via tweet after learning of Rapinoe’s comment.
  • The invite included a chide at Rapinoe, “…Megan should WIN first before she TALKS! Finish the job!” Interesting choice of words considering the US Women’s team are the reigning World Cup champions.
  • He continued, “ Megan should never disrespect our Country, the White House, or our Flag, especially since so much has been done for her & the team. Be proud of the Flag that you wear. The USA is doing GREAT!”
  • Rapinoe doubles down on her comments during a press conference on Thursday. She explained that she doesn’t feel the administration shares the same beliefs as her organization. She urged her teammates to think about the platform they have as national soccer players before accepting the invite.
  • Rapinoe’s teammates are backing her up. Ali Krieger tweeted, “In regards to the “President’s” tweet today, I know women who you cannot control or grope anger you, but I stand by @mPinoe [Rapinoe] & will sit this one out as well.”
  • Alex Morgan and Becky Sauerbrunn have made similar statements and are not likely to accept the invitation.

These ladies aren’t having it!
