Two Delta airline agents saved a field trip for 41 fifth graders after their flight was canceled.
What We Know:
- 41 fifth graders and their chaperones from Tulsa, Oklahoma were stranded in Will Rogers World Airport for six and a half hours when their flight to Richmond, Virginia was canceled. The students were anticipating their field trip to Washington, D.C., a trip that had been in the works for over a year.
- When the trip was canceled the group was offered a refund but there were no other flight options. Luckily two delta agents saw the exchange and decided to help. The two agents called the headquarters in Atlanta and were able to arrange for a spare aircraft to get the group from Oklahoma City.
- One of the chaperones, Shantell Barbour, took to social media to express her gratitude. She tweeted a picture of the children along with the Delta agents. The caption read, “@Delta THANK YOU for getting this group of 5th graders out of OKC and onto Richmond Virginia on a private flight when @AmericanAir wanted to leave us stranded! Most amazing corporation to work with at 3:00 a.m. #flydelta” Delta’s social media responded and said it was a pleasure to help to students.
The story was a heartwarming testimony of people just being people and helping one another. Despite being from a different airline, these agents saw people in need and decided to lend a helping hand.
