Mark-Paul Gosselaar is set to star in Mixed-ish, a Black-ish spin off.
What We Know:
- Mixed-ish is actually a prequel spinoff of Black-ish. The show was supposed to be a singular episode that follows the childhood of the Black-ish main character Rainbow Johnson. The episode was pushed back until next season and then producers decided the concept deserved its own series. Johnson is currently played by Tracee Ellis Ross.
- Gosselaar will play Rainbow’s father. The goal of the show is to show Rainbow’s experiences growing up in a mixed family. Tika Sumpter from Tyler Perry’s The Haves and the Have Nots will play young Rainbow’s mother.
- Gosselaar is mostly known for his role as Zack in the 80’s sitcom Saved by the Bell. The show followed six friends through the jungle that is high school, showing their growth as friends and as individuals. Since then he has been seen on NYPD Blue, Raising the Bar, Pitch, and The Passage.
- Young Rainbow will be played by Arica Himmel, who recently was on the show God Friended Me. Gary Cole will play Bow’s paternal grandfather. Others to be featured on the show include Ethan William Childress, Mykal-Michelle Harris and Christina Anthony.
Mixed-ish is set to air in the Fall of 2019 on ABC.
