Former White House communications director and senior advisor Hope Hicks was questioned by the House Judiciary Committee to gain information for the ongoing investigation on President Trump’s potential obstruction of justice.
What We Know:
- On Tuesday afternoon, the White House sent a letter to Nadler that said that President Trump told Hicks not to answer questions about her time serving as a senior adviser in the White House, claiming she had immunity from having to testify about her time there. Nadler then responded with his own letter saying he denied this assertion.
- Everything seemed to be going fine Wednesday. According to ABC News, shortly after Hicks arrived, Democratic Chairman Rep. Jerry Nadler of New York, emerged to tell reporters that she was “answering questions put to her.”
- However, while the questioning continued, arriving and departing Democrats started to show their dissatisfaction with the proceedings.
- Hicks was answering questions about her time working for the campaign, but not about her time inside the White House – the topic with the most essential information.
- She stated she had no knowledge of hush money payments during the 2016 campaign to women who claimed they’d had an affair with Trump, but wouldn’t talk about what she learned about them during her White House service. Trump has since denied the affairs.
- Trump took to Twitter to show his disapproval of the Democrats interviewing the “wonderful” Hicks.
- Hicks finally left the interview after almost nine hours of questioning.
