Pamela Taylor, the woman who called Michelle Obama an “ape in heels” in 2016, has been sentenced to prison for fraud.
What We Know…
- Taylor pled guilty to stealing over $18,000 of relief payments from the state of West Virginia’s Federal Emergency Management Agency funds in 2016. At the time she was a government official serving as the director of the nonprofit Clay County Development Corporation.
- Taylor has been fined $10,000 in addition to paying back the stolen money. She will serve two months of house arrest and ten months in prison for embezzling funds designated for disaster relief.
- In 2016 Taylor posted a racist Facebook post calling Michelle Obama an “ape in heels” and celebrating Donald Trump’s election victory.
- After her post, Taylor resigned from her job but was subsequently rehired claiming she did not realize the racist implications of her comment. She was subsequently fired based on the company’s anti-discrimination policies.
People are celebrating Taylor’s arrest as karmic justice for her hateful words.
