The remains of the missing 4 year old, Maleah Davis, have finally been found.
What We Know:
- It has been an ongoing search since early May to find Maleah. According to the mother’s ex-fiance, Derion Vence, Maleah was kidnapped by a group of men in a truck. The men had also captured Vence and his two year old son but released them after one day.
- Since then, evidence had been revealed that caused the police department to suspect Vence as the prime suspect and arrested him. Trained police dogs detected the smell of decomposing flesh in his vehicle. This cause officers to arrest Vence on the charge of tampering with evidence.
- Quanell X, a community activist in Houston, encouraged the search to expand to Arkansas. Quanell had spoke with Vence while he was in jail. According to Quanell, Vence confessed to him what happened. Vence admitted that he felt overwhelmed from caring for the kids and was angry with Maleah’s mother Brittany Bowens. Vence also revealed that he had dumped Maleah’s body somewhere in Arkansas.
- On Friday, May 31, a black trash bag with human remains was found near a freeway outside of the city of Hope, AK. Hope is about 30 miles northeast of the Texas-Arkansas border. On Monday, June 3, the remains were identified as the missing 4 year old.
Vence remains in jail with a $45,000 bond.
