Marlon Wayans defends his daughter on Instagram against homophobic internet trolls.

What We Know:

  • June 1st kicked off Pride, a month where the LGBTQ community gets to celebrate, and are celebrated. Pride is annually celebrated in June to honor the 1969 Stonewall riots in Manhattan.
  • Marlon Wayans posted a picture of his daughter, Amai, on Instagram celebrating her for Pride. She was sitting down outside and the bottom of her shoe had a pride flag on it. The pride flag represents a rainbow showing the colors red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet layered in six stripes. Wayans captioned the picture, “Happy pride to my pride and joy. I wouldn’t change one effing thing about you. Love you to the moon around the sun through the galaxies and back again.”
  • Unfortunately, he couldn’t celebrate his daughter in peace. @patriarchal_leadership commented on the post saying, “D**n unfollow. Sad sh**t.” Wayans replied, “bye.” Another user, @chizz401 commented basically voicing disappointment in Wayans parenting. “She’s not old enough to understand what that’s all about. You have the power to change lives bro, don’t teach her that.” Amai is 19 years old. Despite her age, there is no age limit to when a person decides how they’d like to identify themselves.
  • Wayans was met with more comments throughout the day and took the time to respond. It’s not uncommon for celebrities to respond to internet trolls, especially when their children are involved. Wayans also spoke on why he chose to entertain the comments. “Objective without obstacles is a worthless triumph. We all will someday get to unconditional love. Because of my daughter I am one step closer. I am not God, I don’t judge I just LOVE. And still pray for the haters because I refuse to judge them too I just love.”

Marlon hasn’t responded any further and is currently filming his new movie, On the Rocks.
