WarnerMedia has gone on record stating the company is likely to leave Georgia if the ‘Heartbeat’ Bill is enacted on January 1, 2020 as planned.
What We Know:
- WarnerMedia, recently named as such after AT&T acquisition, made a statement today that if the signed Georgia ‘Heartbeat Ban‘ is enacted it will likely choose to new production homes for any new content and work with their talent and partners on existing productions for the best path forward for them.
- “We operate and produce work in many states and within several countries at any given time and while that doesn’t mean we agree with every position taken by a state or a country and their leaders, we do respect due process” stated WarnerMedia.
- Holdings of the company include but are not limited to CNN, HLN, TBS, TNT, Cartoon Network, and HBO.
- NBCUniversal joined in stating ““If any of these laws are upheld, it would strongly impact our decision-making on where we produce our content in the future.”
- Both companies join the ever-growing list of production companies boycotting over the new more restrictive abortion bans hitting states. Most are stating they are watching the legal journey closely and if these restrictive laws are upheld will take their business elsewhere. There are still legal challenges to these restrictive bills that these companies sound hopeful they are successful.
