MTV removed actor Jason Mitchell as a nominee for best performance in a show, following reports of harassment allegations.
What We Know:
- MTV announced this year’s Movie & TV Awards nominees on May 14. But a few days later, news broke about Mitchell being dropped from Season 3 of “The Chi.”
- Creator of “The Chi,” Lena Waithe sat down with The Breakfast Club to discuss the multiple misconduct claims made against Mitchell. “What I want to do is own that I wish I would’ve handled the situation differently, and I wish I would’ve done more. What I want to do is own my part in it” she admitted. Waithe also said she attempted to speak with Mitchell telling him he needed to be more respectful to women.
- Despite the training sessions that the cast and crew had to attend, Mitchell’s alleged inappropriate behavior continued and caused Tiffany Boone—who played the actor’s girlfriend on the show—to ask to be released from the series.
- Mitchell was one of five nominees. The remaining nominees are Emilia Clarke from “Game of Thrones,” Elisabeth Moss from “The Handmaid’s Tale,” Gina Rodriguez from “Jane the Virgin” and Kiernan Shipka from “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.”
The MTV Movie & TV Awards airs on June 17 and will continue the category with just four nominees now that Mitchell has been removed.
