Halle Berry receives praise for always acknowledging the black reporters at red carpet events.

- Halle Berry’s newest film, “John Wick 3” debuted today, so the cast took to the red carpet yesterday evening. Emerald Marie, a reporter from @Whereisthebuzz, had an emotional interview with Berry. Marie said she was one of two black reporters in a sea of mainstream media and paparazzi covering the event. Marie tried to get her attention and was told by a publicist that she was too busy at the moment.
- Although she was crowded, as soon as Berry saw the the two black reporters she walked through the crowd straight over to them. Marie says when Berry arrived she said, “I can’t skip my brother and sister.” After the interview aired, Berry had received mountains of praise. Jemele Hill, a writer for The Atlantic, tweeted, “Bravo to @halleberry for stopping to speak to 1 of 2 black reporters covering this event. Memo to black celebs: Question any publicist or rep that doesn’t involve black journalist/media in the coverage plan.”
- Halle Berry has been on Hollywood’s A-List for quite some time now. Her first role was in “Jungle Fever,” a Spike Lee film that debuted in 1991. Although it was a small role, her career kicked off soon after. In 2002 she won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in “Monster’s Ball.” As of now, she is the only African American woman to win the award.
