City Girls’ JT Denied Early Prison Release

The rapper JT, half of the popular female rap duo the “City Girls” was denied an early prison release for her felony fraud charges.

What We Know:

  • The rapper, real name Jatavia Johnson, was sentenced to two years at a Tallahassee federal prison on fraudulent credit card charges and turned herself in last summer to serve what’s expected to be a 2 year sentence.
  • Her legal team filed a request for her release with only nine months left in the sentence, stating that “By July 12, 2019, she will have completed “15.6 months (12 months plus 3.6 months earned good time credit), thereby leaving 8.4 months of her sentence to be served.”
  • Also using her celebrity status as a reason for her early dismissal, her team stated that the duo “have developed relationships with the elite of the elite. It is without hesitation that I can proffer that you will never hear from this Defendant regarding any type of crime, much less an economic one.”
  • The judge denied her request but did submit her case to the Bureau of Prisons which means there is a small chance that JT might be released early after all.

The sooner JT gets released, the sooner we can hopefully get some new music!

What do you think? Is this a fair ruling the judge gave?
