Kenan Thompson to have New Show on NBC

NBC has ordered comedy series “The Kenan Show” centered around comedian Kenan Thompson, who will executive produce and star in the show.

What We Know…

  • The show, written by Jackie Clarke of “Superstore,” follows Thompson’s character and his family as he “strives to be a super dad…balancing his job and a father-in-law who ‘helps’ in the most inappropriate ways.” His role is of a widowed dad working to raise two kids.
  • Thompson will be executive producing with comedian Chris Rock, producer on “Portlandia” and “30 Rock” Andrew Singer and “Saturday Night Live” creator and executive producer Lorne Michaels.
  • Thompson has confirmed this new project will not take him off SNL for at least another year; he is the longest-tenured cast member in the show’s history with 16 seasons under his belt.
  • Thompson will also judge NBC’s new comedy competition show “Bring The Funny” alongside Chrissy Teigen, comedian Jeff Foxworthy and comedian Amanda Seales. Fox is beginning a similar comedy competition series called “Funny People.”
  • Thompson’s famous 90’s television show “All That” will also see a revival this year executive produced by Thompson and Kel Mitchell. The revival will feature fan-favorite sketches like “Good Burger” and a cameo from the Jonas Brothers.

This year is huge for Kenan as he racks up 3 new premieres and makes SNL history entering his 16th tenured season.
