Kanye Charges $255 for ‘Holy Spirit’ Hoodies, $50 ‘Jesus Walks’ Socks

Over the weekend, Kanye West hosted a “Sunday Service at the Mountain” as part of Coachella. The rapper and designer also debuted a few items from his “Church Clothes” merch collection, and yes, those prices are real!

  • The collection included sweatshirts ranging from $165 to $225, reading “holy spirit” and “trust God” on the front and “Sunday Service at the Mountain” on the back. The most affordable item were socks which were priced at $50 and read “Jesus walks” or “church socks.” Sweatpants that read “Sunday Service” were also available.
  • Yeezy received some backlash on social media about the expensive price tags on the simple designs. Not only have there been  controversy around the overpriced items, but also the use of the slogans. Scottie Beam addressed West’s Sunday Services on her show State of the Culture. Beam said “Using God as a ploy to get Black people to forgive you, because a lot of people do that. A lot of people bring up God, pull out God whenever its convenient for them because you’ve done fucked up so bad, is when you bring up our Lord and Savior.”
  • West has been hosting these invite only services in undisclosed locations for several months and it is still unclear as to where it will lead to. Although in recent years, church has been used as a rebranding strategy for artists who’ve faced some trouble in the past.

For those who missed the Sunday Service,  some pieces have been made available to purchase on Kanye’s website.
