Joe Biden is Running for President

Former Vice President Joe Biden has announced his 2020 presidential bid.

What We Know:

  • In a video released on Thursday, Joe Biden announced his run for office. In a call to action, he states, “If we give Donald Trump eight years in the White House, he will forever and fundamentally alter the character of this nation, who we are, and I cannot stand by and watch that happen.” (President Trump has responded to Biden’s remarks)

  • The 76-year-old is a familiar face among the current group of 19 Democrats hoping to challenge President Trump in 2020. He is a former Vice-President and served as a Delaware senator for 36 years.
  • He has asked former President Barack Obama not to endorse him. He explained, “Whoever wins this nomination should win it on their own merits.”
  •  This will be Biden’s third bid for president, after two unsuccessful attempts in 1988 and 2008.
  • Biden’s campaign was hit by a scandal earlier this year when several women accused him of inappropriate conduct. Despite these allegations, he has higher approval ratings than all of his opponents.

Early polls show Biden is the front-runner for the 2020 Democratic nomination.
