Damn, Jussie Smollett.

Typically, we give you 5 things you need to know about the any situation. We cover black news, black celebrations and unfortunately black tragedies.

True to form, and in line with the law of the United States, we believe that any individual is innocent until proven guilty. There have been countless arguments, discussions and social media feuds both disputing the presented arguments against Jussie Smollett and demanding justice for said arguments. In just about 7 days, the entire narrative of what was initially presented as a violent hate crime/gay bashing, has turned into what seems to be a salacious and egregious hoax.

(list of all charges)

We’ve already provided a chronological timeline of the events. If you missed the play by play, catch up. Wednesday, February 20th, Jussie was charged with Felony Disorderly Conduct – Filing a false police report, which is a Class 4 felony. Smollett appeared in court Thursday afternoon and spoke only to confirm his name to the judge. His defense team told the court that Smollett was not a flight risk and cited his philanthropic work in making his case for bail. The judge granted a $100,000 bail, and Smollett paid a $10,000 bond. He was ordered to give up his passport and will remain under supervision until his case is adjudicated.

After his arrest Thursday, the studio and network released another statement.

“We understand the seriousness of this matter and we respect the legal process,” 20th Century Fox Television and Fox Entertainment said in a statement to CNN on Thursday. “We are evaluating the situation and we are considering our options.”

Apparently, Smollett is “on hold” for Friday’s shoot, per the production schedule that was recently released to cast and crew. The filming of the season finale episode of Empire is in progress this week and next week. We hear that he has been completely cut for the last two scenes of the season and will possibly be written out of the series completely.

The situation is holistically alarming. The bond proffer was released Thursday after being read in full by the Assistant State Attorney.

We will continue to follow this story. Check back for updates.
