It’s reported that two baristas were fired from a Joe Van Gogh coffee shop on the campus of Duke University last Friday.
What we know:
- Baristas Britni Brown (black) and Kevin Simmons (white) were working
- Larry Moneta—vice president for student affairs at Duke—came in for his regular hot tea and vegan muffin
- The song ‘Get Paid’ by Young Dolph was playing. The song repeatedly says ‘Get paid, young nigga’
- Moneta—who is white—told Brown that the song was inappropriate. Brown immediately apologized and turned the song off.
- Moneta reported the incident to the Food Services manager at Duke, who contacted the rep for Joe Van Gogh
- Brown and Simmons were called to the Van Gogh corporate offices and were asked to resign
