Posted on May 7, 2018 by Alex Haynes
What we know:  Students at the University of Florida are speaking out after a faculty member forcibly rushed graduates, most of them African-American, off stage during one of the school’s commencement ceremonies over the weekend. UF President W. Kent Fuchs issued an apology after videos of the incident surfaced online.
  • Students reportedly jumped and danced after getting their diplomas from the Gainesville school, which was said to be a common rite of passage in some fraternities and sororities, only to be shoved by a graduation marshal moving them away.
  • School president W. Kent Fuchs lamented the “inappropriately aggressive” behavior toward the grads at the Saturday event, images of which circulated around social media.
